Stage 2 results:
🚧 Database with the main motivations and obstacles to the consumption of alternative protein foods, obtained from the interviews conducted (100% complete).
📝 Database with the survey results (100% complete).
🔊 A set of information related to alternative protein sources disseminated to the general public (100% complete).
Summary of results:
The results of this stage show a diversity of opinions regarding alternative proteins. Plant-based products are the most widely accepted, being perceived as a compromise between tradition and innovation. In contrast, lab-grown meat and insect-based products are met with reluctance due to perceptions of them being “unnatural” and “unsafe.” The need for public policies adapted to local conditions, investment in research, and measures to support the transition without affecting meat products was emphasized.

Results from interviews with stakeholders in Romania

Conclusions of this stage:
The conclusions of stage 2 highlight the need for an integrated approach between innovation, public policy, and food education. Participants emphasize the importance of accurate information and transparent labeling, along with support for local research and production. The transition to alternative proteins is seen as an opportunity for sustainability and health, but also as a cultural challenge that requires adaptation to Romanian specifics and the involvement of all actors in the food chain.
